Java Software Developer

The Fiehn laboratory invites applications for the position of a Java Software Developer at the Junior or Senior level for developing a platform-independent database for metabolome data within the U.S. Pharmacometabolomics consortium. The intent for this new repository is to form a nucleus for a generic National Repository that could also store, query and disseminate data from other study backgrounds.

The successful candidate will have the following sets of skills:

Programming skills:

• fluent in java 5 and SQL including framework and administrative tasks
• be able to work in a TDD environment and to use hibernate 3, java annotations, spring with advanced skills in maven2, junit, jboss4+
• knowledge about GRAILS framework for development of web applications
• knowledge in use and administration of mysql and postgresql

The candidates are expected to be able to communicate in English and have excellent skills to work in teams and in collaborative environments and consortia. Additional knowledge in chemistry, medicine, biochemistry or related areas are a plus but are not essential.

Analytical Chemist

An analytical chemist, biologist or biochemist position (BS or MS level) is open at the junior specialist to take responsibility for organizing lab routine workflows for the lipidomic profiles (nanoESI-ion trap MS) and volatile profiling (thermodesorption-GC-TOF mass spectrometry). Protocols have been worked out in detail, and senior lab staff will train the incoming junior specialist. The successful candidate should be a highly organized, dedicated and prudent person with skills to manage projects on time despite handling multiple projects. This position is targeted for an initial two years but can lead to a permanent staff position in mutual consent. Excellent communication skills in English are required, and proven writing skills are beneficial. Permit to work in the U.S. is required. This position is in conjunction with the U.S. pharmacogenomics network to predict individual responses to medical treatments and with the NSF plant functional genomics project.

Mass Spectrometry Specialist

A biochemistry- or physiology-oriented mass spectrometry specialist is sought at the PhD level for accurate mass and MS/MS analyses for identification of metabolites in metabolomic screens, and to aid standardization efforts in metabolomics. Knowledge of computational chemistry, handling of chemical databases and expertise in cheminformatics is a plus. Excellent communication skills in English are required, including proven writing skills documented by first author papers. This position is in conjunction with the U.S. pharmacogenomics network to predict individual responses to medical treatments.
