Principles of Biological Data Analysis
An introduction to the principles of applied statistical modeling, experimental design, statistical inference and hypothesis tests. Topics to be covered include: error analysis; summarizing data; sampling designs; maximum likelihood and Bayesian point estimation of parameters; hypothesis tests; the bootstrap; computer simulation; analysis of variance; regression; linear models; non-parametric statistics. Examples will be presented from the fields of ecology and evolutionary genetics illustrating the principles taught in the course.
